It's Summer Time

What will you be doing this summer? Camping? Touring? Visiting relatives? Going off to some exotic country? No matter where you go or what you do there is writing material around every corner.

To me summer is a time to meet new people and explore new places. That means that I have new encounters to foster more ideas. How exciting is that?

For Father's Day my family took the King of our household to the mountains. The fresh air, the change of scenary, and all those strangers around me where just begging to crawl between the pages of one of my books.

My middle daughter just returned from a cruise where she shared several interesting stories. People I work with have already taken their vacations and have returned with beautiful pictures and ideas that are filling my head to the bursting point. (What a visual!)

So what do you have planned this summer? Better yet, how will you take advantage of what you see, hear, smell, or touch? And what about those readers who shy away from paper? I invite you to share your stories with me (mackenzie@mackenziemckade.com). I'd love to hear about your adventures. Who knows maybe you're my next character or perhaps your home town is just the place I've been looking for to write about. I'm dying to talk to someone from Maryland (fishing town).

As for me, my feet are itching to travel. If I didn't have to work and had all the money in the world, I'd be gone in a heartbeat. SBut for now I'll just travel through the back streets of my mind--make things up as I go along. *g*

Happy summer!

Mac,

Loved the entry, especially the part about the back streets of your mind. Are you going to do some travel to sand dunes? Oh wait. Maybe it wasn't a sand buggy, but ATV that you had? Can't remember exactly. I just recall it was a warm weather vehicle. Must go grab coffee to recharge my batteries.

I have to admit, when it was posted on WW as 'It's Summer Time', my first knee jerk response was 'and it's hotter than Hades'.

Of course that's with the knowledge that I know where you live. And where I lived for the past 35 years before moving north. Heh. Yesterday it was 93. But I guess I'll take that over your 108. I know you come alive during the summer. I completely shut down. I think I start to melt my circuits or something.

And then someone told me it snowed 'just a touch' last week in Alaska. Oooooh.

I know, I know. You're shivering and shuddering. But think of all the skating and skiing!

LOL. Denise you've been paying attention. We have quads, dirt bikes, and a rhino that we take to the Sand Dunes. But that is a winter sport for us. It's too darn hot to ride.

For the summer it's the boat and jet skiis. You're right that's when I come alive. I love water sports.

I do have to admit that the heat is getting to me this year. My daughter even mentioned she wanted out of this state because it was too hot. Still there are so many beautiful mountain ranges that are cool and wonderful to visit here in Arizona. The problem is there are no jobs in those wonderful places (sigh).

As for travel--you bet I'll be doing my best.

I'm in Tennessee right now, Great Smoky Mountains, and mostly I'm thinking about how NOT different it is from where I live (except for being called "baby" by the waitress--oh, and the size of the crosses :) ). So far I haven't been inspired to use the setting, but I probably will eventually (SF appeared in my WIP, the last place I traveled to), and I did get an idea for a book that has nothing to do with Tennessee. :)
